Today, I had the chance to visit with my school the "Manufacture de Sèvres" very famous for its porcelain.
We saw all the stages in the making of porcelain.
Here are a few pics taken with my phone
the molds |
from right to left, the different stages, the one on the right is after being enameled |
old wooden oven |
The quality of porcelain can be judged by its color (the whiter, the better), its transparency and the sound it makes when you "clink" it
A very old wooden oven, that hasn't worked for 27 years, and was turned on yesterday for only 2 days for a special collection from an artist who died before she could finish her work |
This is how they enamel a plate
